Werfen ice caves are situated about 40 km away from Salzburg and they consist of a system of caves in the Tennengebirge mountains. Caves are filled with ice all year round.
In order to reach the ice caves, you should take the cable car from the valley floor below. This is the steepest cable car in Austria, therefore it is worth a trip.
Alternatively, you can walk to the ice caves. In this case, just consider that you'll have to walk for one hour and a half climbing 500 meters.
Before entering the caves, you'll receive a miner's light and you'll start the walking tour. The whole tour involves climbing 134 metres.
You are allowed to bring dogs to the World of Ice, but this is not recommended because of the many steps inside.
Photography and filming are not permitted in the caves.
