Several of the altar paintings are the work of Martin Johann Schmidt, also called “Kremser-Schmidt“, one of the most famous altar painters of the 18th century.
In the 20th century the abbot Petrus Klotz founded the Collegium Benedectinum.
Something interesting to knowIn one of the side chapels of the church there are the memorial of Johann Michael Haydn, a marble plaque in memory of Nannerl Mozart, Amadeus’ sister and the tomb of Hans Werner von Raitenau, Wolf Dietrich’s father.
The abbey is strictly connected to the musical history of Salzburg.
In 1769, when Mozart was only 13 years old, he composed the “Dominicus Mass” for Abbot Hagenauer.
In 1782, Johann Michael Haydn composed the “Rupert Mass” for St. Peter’s abbey.
