Nearby watercourses were canalized thanks to a wonderful water organ. The Renaissance garden of the castle was built following the style of the Villa Pratolino garden near Florence. The garden contains wells, trick fountains (Wasserspiele), ponds, artificial grottos created for entertaining the Prince Archbishop of Salzburg and his guests. According to new theatrical trends, Markus Sittikus von Hohenems decided to build the Stone Theatre (Steintheater) from the natural stone quarry in Hellbrunn.
At the beginning of 1700, the park was redecorated by the inspector of the royal gardens Franz Anton Danreiter in order to adapt it to the “new” style of the age. Mythical statues were built for this purpose.
